If an Insignia TV will not turn on, start with power and the standby light. Many Insignia models are Fire TV Edition sets, so remote pairing and Fire TV software freezes can look like a dead TV.
These steps apply to Insignia TVs sold by Best Buy, including models with Amazon Fire TV built in.

Use this if pressing power leaves the screen dark with no logo and no sound. The standby light tells you whether the TV is getting power at all.
Check standby light and power-cycle
- Look for the small standby LED near the bottom edge or stand.
- If the light is off, confirm the power cable is fully seated and the outlet works.
- Plug the TV directly into a wall outlet instead of a power strip while testing.
- Unplug the TV from the wall.
- Hold the physical power button on the TV for 30 seconds.
- Wait a full 60 seconds, plug it back in, and press the TV’s own power button.
This clears many dead-looking Insignia TVs, especially after a power outage or interrupted Fire TV update.
Check the remote
If the TV has power but ignores the remote, replace the batteries and re-pair the Fire TV remote.
- Remove the remote batteries, wait 10 seconds, and install a fresh pair.
- Stand about three feet from the TV.
- Hold the Home button for about 10 seconds.
- Wait for an on-screen pairing prompt or response.
- Try the physical power button on the TV as a separate test.
The physical button is often on the bottom, side, back, or corner of the frame. A spare Fire TV remote may also pair with many Insignia Fire TV Edition sets.
Check outlet and stuck updates
- Test the outlet with a lamp or phone charger.
- If using a power strip, check its reset switch or bypass it completely.
- If the TV went dark during an update, leave it plugged in and untouched for 15 to 20 minutes.
- If nothing changes after that, repeat the power-button drain step.
Fire TV Edition sets can show a black screen during parts of an update. Interrupting repeatedly can make recovery harder.
When it may be hardware
If the standby light is on but the screen never wakes, treat it like a frozen Fire TV and follow Fire TV recovery steps. If HDMI-CEC is involved with a soundbar or console, temporarily disconnect HDMI devices or disable CEC to rule out a bad power-control handshake.
If the standby light stays off with a confirmed working outlet and cable, and the power-button reset does nothing, the internal power supply board may have failed. On older TVs, replacement is often more practical than board repair.
