When one LG TV app stops working, webOS may be holding a stuck app session or an outdated app version. If several apps fail, the TV’s network or system software is more likely involved.
These steps apply to LG smart TVs running webOS, including recent and older versions.
Does this affect you?
Use this if Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, Hulu, Disney+, or another LG TV app will not open, freezes, crashes to the home screen, or shows repeated errors.
Force-close and reopen the app
- Press Home on the LG remote to show the app row.
- Highlight the problem app.
- Press Down or open the app options depending on your webOS version.
- Choose Close or the X icon.
- Wait about 10 seconds and reopen the app.
If the app opens normally afterward, the issue was a temporary hang.
Update the app and webOS
- Open LG Content Store or LG Apps from the home screen.
- Go to My Apps, My Page, App Update, or Update Center.
- Install any update for the problem app.
- Then check TV software under Settings > All Settings > General > About This TV > Check for Updates.
- Install pending webOS updates and let the TV restart.
Streaming services update their apps frequently. Old app builds are a common cause of crashes after service-side changes.
Restart the TV and check the network
- Turn the TV off.
- Unplug it from the wall for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and let it fully start.
- Open Settings > All Settings > Connection > Wi-Fi Connection or Network.
- Confirm the connection is strong, or try Ethernet if available.
A full power cycle refreshes internal app state and network/DNS behavior that can cause loading failures.
Reinstall or reset only if needed
If one app keeps failing, delete it from the home screen, restart the TV, and reinstall it from LG Content Store or LG Apps. This clears local app data that an update may leave behind.
Some LG models include a lighter app store or cache reset under Support > Reset. Use that before a full Reset to Initial Settings. A full factory reset should be the last step because it erases Wi-Fi, apps, and settings.
If the same app fails on phones, browsers, and other TVs, the service may be down. Check outage reports. If your LG TV is six or seven years old and one app no longer receives updates, an external streaming device may be the practical fix.
