Cox Equipment Return: How to Send Back Your Modem or Router

Cox modem and router equipment return

When you cancel, move, or change Cox service, rented equipment has to be returned. Unreturned modems, gateways, cable boxes, remotes, and power cords can lead to replacement fees.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Cox residential internet, TV, or phone customers returning a Panoramic Wifi gateway, modem, router, cable box, remote, or related rented hardware.

Return at a Cox Solutions Store

This is the most direct option because you leave with proof.

  1. Gather all rented equipment and power cords.
  2. Find the nearest Cox Solutions Store on cox.com or in the Cox app.
  3. Bring the equipment in; the original box is not required for a normal return.
  4. Ask for an itemized dated receipt with serial numbers.
  5. Keep the receipt for several billing cycles.

Ship it through The UPS Store

Use this if a Cox store is not nearby.

  1. Start the return from your Cox account, chat, or phone support to get a return barcode.
  2. Bring equipment and the barcode to The UPS Store.
  3. The store scans the barcode, packs the items, and ships them to Cox at no charge.
  4. Get a receipt or tracking number before leaving.
  5. Return promptly, often within about 10 days after cancellation or service change.

More control

Watch later bills

Check the next one or two Cox bills. If an unreturned-equipment fee appears, contact Cox with the receipt or tracking number.

Do not return your own equipment

If you bought a retail modem or router yourself, it is yours. Cox-owned equipment is usually marked as Cox property.

Self-install kits still count

A modem or gateway from a self-install kit must be returned when rented service ends.
