Computer Will Not Connect to the Internet: Full Fix

Windows computer no internet connection troubleshooting

When only one computer cannot get online while other devices work, the router is usually not the main problem. The issue is often the PC network adapter, IP address, DNS cache, driver, VPN, or security software.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Windows 10 or Windows 11 PCs that show No internet, secured, fail over Wi-Fi or Ethernet, or connect but cannot load websites while other devices are fine.

Restart the adapter and renew the IP address

This clears stale or conflicting network information.

  1. Right-click Start and open Windows Terminal or Command Prompt.
  2. Run ipconfig /release.
  3. Run ipconfig /renew and wait 10 to 15 seconds.
  4. Run ipconfig /flushdns.
  5. Test the browser again.

Disable and re-enable the adapter

This forces Windows to reload the connection.

  1. Open Settings > Network & internet > Advanced network settings.
  2. Find the active Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter.
  3. Disable it.
  4. Wait about 10 seconds.
  5. Enable it again and wait for reconnection.

Run troubleshooter or network reset

Use this after simpler fixes fail.

  1. Right-click the network icon or open Settings troubleshooting and run Diagnose network problems.
  2. If the issue remains, open Network reset under Advanced network settings.
  3. Click Reset now only when ready.
  4. After restart, reconnect to Wi-Fi or confirm Ethernet is seated.

More control

Network reset removes saved settings

Network reset deletes saved Wi-Fi networks, VPN connections, and custom adapter settings on that computer. You will need the Wi-Fi password again.

Update or roll back drivers

In Device Manager, update the Wi-Fi or Ethernet adapter driver. If the problem began after a Windows update, try Roll Back Driver.

Temporarily test VPN and security software

VPN clients and third-party antivirus tools can block traffic after updates. Disable briefly for testing, then turn protection back on.
