CE-34878-0 is the PS4’s broad application crash code. It means a game or app closed unexpectedly, but it does not tell you the exact cause by itself.
These steps apply to PS4 and PS4 Pro consoles and most games that crash back to the Home screen.

Use this if one game suddenly quits with CE-34878-0, especially after a patch, install problem, corrupted save, or storage issue.
Update the game and your system software
Many CE-34878-0 crashes are fixed by a game patch or PlayStation system update that already exists.
- Highlight the crashing game on the PS4 Home screen.
- Press Options and choose Check for Update.
- Install any game update that appears.
- Open Settings > System Software Update and install any PS4 system update.
- Restart the console fully from Settings > Power Options > Restart PS4.
- Launch the game and check whether it crashes in the same place.
A full restart is better than Rest Mode after updates because it reloads the system cleanly.
Rebuild the PS4 database
Rebuild Database scans the drive and repairs the installed-content index without deleting saves or games.
- Turn off the PS4 completely.
- Hold the power button until the second beep to enter Safe Mode.
- Connect a controller with a USB cable and press PS.
- Choose Rebuild Database.
- Let it finish without unplugging or interrupting the console.
- After the restart, open the affected game again.
The process can take a few minutes or more than an hour depending on the amount of installed data.
Delete and reinstall the game
If updates and database repair do not help, the installed game files may be corrupted.
- Highlight the game on the Home screen.
- Press Options and choose Delete.
- Confirm the deletion.
- Reinstall the game from your Library or from the disc.
- Install the latest patch before testing again.
Deleting the game removes installed game files, not trophies or normal saved data, which are stored separately.
Saves, storage, hard drive, and heat
If the crash happens only when loading one save, try another save slot. You can move or back up saves from Settings > Application Saved Data Management to see whether the crash follows the save file.
Free several gigabytes of storage if the PS4 is nearly full. Games need working space for temporary files, updates, and save operations.
CE-34878-0 across several unrelated games can point to a failing internal hard drive. Back up important data with cloud or USB options before the drive gets worse.
A dusty, hot PS4 can also crash games under load. If the fan is loud or the console feels unusually hot, power it off, unplug it, and clean the vents with compressed air.
