A Call of Duty Dev Error is a broad crash message. The number can hint at the cause, but many fixes overlap because the game is usually failing to load a file, render through the driver, or manage video memory correctly.
These steps apply to Call of Duty and Warzone on PC through Battle.net or Steam, plus PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One where file and update checks are available.

Scan and repair game files
- On Battle.net, open the Battle.net app, select Call of Duty, click the gear icon, and choose Scan and Repair.
- On Steam, right-click the game, choose Properties > Installed Files, and select Verify integrity of game files.
- On PlayStation, highlight the game, press Options, and check for updates.
- On Xbox, open My games & apps, highlight the game, use Manage app, and check available file or reinstall options.
- Restart the console or PC after the scan or repair completes.
Large Call of Duty updates can leave corrupted or incomplete files. A scan replaces only what is damaged.
Update drivers and lower graphics load
- Update GPU drivers through NVIDIA, AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition, or Intel’s driver tool.
- Open Options > Graphics in the game.
- Lower Texture Resolution if your GPU has limited VRAM.
- Reduce or disable On-Demand Texture Streaming.
- Close recording tools, browser hardware acceleration, Discord overlay, NVIDIA overlay, and other GPU overlays.
- Restart the PC after driver updates.
Dev Error 6036 and 5573 are commonly tied to file or VRAM trouble. Dev Error 6068 is often a DirectX, driver, overlay, or too-high-settings crash.
Reset overclocks and watch update timing
If your GPU or CPU is overclocked, return it to stock settings and test. A game can expose instability that other apps never trigger.
If the error appears for many players right after a new season or update, check Activision’s server status and official social channels. Sometimes the fix has to come from a game patch rather than your local setup.
