Call of Duty Lagging? How to Fix High Ping and Rubber-Banding

Call of Duty lag usually appears as rubber-banding, delayed hit markers, enemies moving in jumps, or sudden lag spikes. That points to connection quality more than raw download speed.

These steps apply to Call of Duty on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, including current Warzone and multiplayer releases.

Does this affect you?

Use this if your internet seems fine but Call of Duty still has high ping, packet loss, hit registration delay, or movement snapping backward.

Check for a server-side problem

  1. Check Call of Duty server status in game or through Activision Support.
  2. Look at official social accounts for outage notices.
  3. See whether many players are reporting the same issue at the same time.
  4. If servers are degraded, wait before changing your setup.

When the servers are struggling, local router changes will not fix the match quality.

Use wired internet and restart network gear

  1. Connect the PC or console to the router with Ethernet if possible.
  2. Unplug the modem and router from power.
  3. Wait a full minute.
  4. Plug the modem back in first and let it reconnect.
  5. Plug the router back in.
  6. Pause downloads, cloud backups, and video streams while testing.
  7. Try playing when fewer people in the home are using the network.

Wi-Fi can show good speed while still dropping packets. Packet loss is what causes rubber-banding and delayed actions.

Adjust in-game network settings

  1. Open Options > General or Network in Call of Duty.
  2. Try toggling any Network Latency Fix or smoothing option if your version includes it.
  3. If Data Center or Region is available, choose the nearest region instead of a distant server.
  4. On PC, close browsers, launchers, chat apps, and screen sharing tools while playing.

If you also see party, voice, or matchmaking problems, check NAT type. Strict NAT can create connection issues separate from normal ping.

When to contact your ISP

Run a speed test during a laggy period and compare it with your plan. If the result is far below expected, or if packet loss appears across multiple online games, the problem may be outside your home network.

Tell your internet provider the issue is latency and packet loss during online gaming, not only low download speed. That wording usually gets the right kind of troubleshooting.
