How to Delete Your Amazon Account

Amazon account deletion is permanent and affects more than shopping. Order history, saved payment methods, digital content, photos, gift card balance, subscriptions, and connected services can all be affected.

Does this affect you?

Use this for personal Amazon.com accounts. Amazon Business and AWS accounts use different closure processes.

Close your account through Amazon’s account-closure form

Amazon handles closure through support, not a normal settings toggle.

  1. Sign in to the Amazon account you want to close.
  2. Open Amazon Help and search for Close my account if the direct help page has moved.
  3. Find the account-closure contact option, usually email or chat.
  4. Tell Amazon you want to permanently close the account.
  5. Read Amazon’s warning about order history, digital purchases, subscriptions, gift card balance, and account access.
  6. Reply or confirm that you still want to close it.
  7. Wait for the final confirmation email. Processing can take a few days.

More control

Use balances and save content first

Unused gift card balance is typically forfeited when the account closes. Download Amazon Photos, save needed receipts, and review Kindle or Prime Video purchases before requesting closure.

Cancel subscriptions separately

Prime, Subscribe & Save, Kindle Unlimited, and other recurring services should be canceled separately before closing the account to avoid confusion during the closure period.

Maybe you only need to cancel Prime

If the goal is to stop paying for Prime but keep shopping or order history, cancel Prime membership instead of deleting the whole Amazon account.
