ChatGPT Tasks lets you schedule a prompt to run later or repeat automatically. It can send a reminder, create a recurring summary, or run a scheduled prompt without you opening a new chat each time.
Does this affect you?
Use this for ChatGPT plans that include Tasks on web, iOS, or Android. Availability can vary by plan and region, and it is not available on every free account.
Create a scheduled task
You can ask naturally or use the Tasks menu.
- Open ChatGPT on web, iOS, or Android.
- Start a new chat or open the chat you want the task to use.
- Type a request with timing, such as every weekday at 7 AM summarize top tech news or remind me on the 15th to renew insurance.
- Review the task ChatGPT proposes, including time, timezone, and repeat frequency.
- Confirm the task.
- Alternatively, open your profile menu, choose Tasks, and create one directly.
When the task runs, ChatGPT sends a notification or posts the result in the task thread, depending on app and device settings.
View, edit, or cancel a task
You can adjust tasks any time.
- Open the profile menu in ChatGPT.
- Select Tasks.
- Choose a task from the list.
- Edit the prompt, schedule, or next run time as needed.
- Use Pause to stop it temporarily without deleting it.
- Use Delete task to remove it completely.
More control
There may be an active task limit
Most plans allow only a limited number of active scheduled tasks. Pause or delete old tasks before creating new ones if you hit the cap.
Tasks need access to do the job
A task cannot check your email, calendar, private files, or accounts unless ChatGPT is connected to those services with permission. Use tasks for reminders, public information, and prompts ChatGPT can actually complete.
Check timezone carefully
Confirm the timezone when creating or editing a task, especially while traveling. A correct prompt scheduled in the wrong timezone will still fire at the wrong local time.
Enable notifications
On mobile, turn on ChatGPT notifications in iOS or Android settings so task results are visible when they run.
