DisplayPort and DVI are digital connections, so a bad handshake often means a blank No Signal screen rather than a fuzzy image. The usual causes are cable seating, wrong input, bad port, adapter mismatch, driver negotiation, or an unsupported resolution.
These steps apply to Windows 10 and Windows 11 PCs and laptops connected by DisplayPort or DVI.

Use this if the monitor powers on but says No Signal while connected over DisplayPort or DVI.
Check Cable, Port, and Input
- Unplug the cable from both ends and reconnect firmly. DisplayPort often has a locking clip that should click into place.
- Try another DisplayPort or DVI cable if available.
- Try another DisplayPort output on the graphics card or laptop.
- Use the monitor input menu to select DisplayPort or DVI instead of HDMI.
- For DVI, confirm the cable type matches the port, such as DVI-D or DVI-I.
Force Windows to Detect the Display
- With the monitor connected and powered on, right-click the desktop and choose Display settings.
- Click Detect under Multiple displays.
- Press Windows key + P and cycle through PC screen only, Duplicate, Extend, and Second screen only.
- Check NVIDIA Control Panel, AMD Software, or Intel graphics settings if the laptop has multiple GPUs.
- Restart with the monitor already connected and powered on.
Check Adapter, Dock, and Version Mismatches
- Not every USB-C port supports video output, even if an adapter fits.
- DisplayPort 1.2 handles many common 4K 60Hz and 1440p high-refresh setups, while more demanding refresh rates may need DisplayPort 1.4 or newer.
- If using an MST hub, test one monitor connected directly.
- Update graphics drivers from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel.
- Passive DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapters often work only from DisplayPort source to HDMI display, not the reverse.
Isolate the Failure
Test the monitor on another computer or with HDMI if available. Test the same PC port with another monitor. If Safe Mode shows a picture after a driver or GPU change, lower the resolution or refresh rate in normal Windows afterward.
