How to Find or Change Your Android Hotspot Password

Android hotspot password settings illustration

Your Android hotspot has its own Wi-Fi network name and password. It is separate from your home Wi-Fi password and can be viewed, changed, or shared by QR code from hotspot settings.

These steps apply to Android 12 through 15 on Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and similar phones with a mobile plan that allows hotspot or tethering.

Does This Affect You?

Use this if someone needs your hotspot password, you forgot it, or you want to change it because an old device or person should no longer connect.

Find the Current Hotspot Password

  1. Open Settings.
  2. On Pixel or stock Android, tap Network & internet > Hotspot and tethering.
  3. On Samsung, tap Connections > Mobile Hotspot and Tethering.
  4. Tap Wi-Fi hotspot or Mobile Hotspot.
  5. Look for the network name and password.
  6. Tap the eye icon if the password is hidden.

Change the Hotspot Password

  1. Open the same hotspot settings screen.
  2. Tap Password or Hotspot password.
  3. Delete the old password.
  4. Enter a new password, usually at least 8 characters.
  5. Tap Save or OK.
  6. Reconnect laptops, tablets, and other devices with the new password.

Changing the password immediately stops devices from reconnecting with the old saved password.

Hotspot Sharing Tips

Use the QR Code

Many phones show a QR code near the hotspot name and password. Another phone can scan it to join without typing.

Watch Connected Devices

Check the connected devices list while sharing in public. Some phones let you limit the number of devices allowed to join.

Remember Data and Battery

Hotspot use drains battery and connected devices use your mobile data plan. Laptops can use data quickly through updates and cloud sync.

Brand Paths Differ

Samsung puts hotspot under Connections, while Pixel-style Android uses Network and internet. The password field and QR code idea are similar.
