The Xfinity app with xFi controls manages Wi-Fi from an Xfinity Gateway. It handles common router tasks from a phone, including passwords, connected devices, device pauses, speed tests, and guest Wi-Fi.
Does this affect you?
Use this if your Xfinity internet uses an Xfinity Gateway or xFi Gateway. If you use your own router, most Wi-Fi management features stay on your router instead.
Download and set up the app
First setup only takes a few minutes.
- Install the Xfinity app from the App Store or Google Play.
- Sign in with your Xfinity ID, the same login used for billing and the website.
- Let the app confirm the Xfinity Gateway on your account.
- Open the Home tab to see network name, connected devices, and status.
- If gateway Wi-Fi controls are missing, confirm you are not using a third-party router for Wi-Fi.
What you can do in xFi
These cover most everyday Wi-Fi tasks.
- Change Wi-Fi name or password: open Connect > WiFi, select the network, and edit Network Name or Password. Devices reconnect afterward.
- See connected devices: use the Connect tab to view, rename, and inspect devices.
- Pause a device: tap a device and choose Pause to cut internet without changing the password.
- Run a speed test: use the Home tab speed test to compare current speeds with your plan.
- Set up guest Wi-Fi: open Connect > WiFi and enable Guest WiFi if available.
More control
Advanced Security runs from the app
xFi Advanced Security can flag suspicious activity and block known threats. Enable it under Connect > xFi Advanced Security if your gateway supports it.
Use profiles for parental controls
Group a child phone, tablet, and console into one profile, then schedule internet pauses for bedtime or homework instead of pausing devices one at a time.
The app can fail while internet is fine
If the app cannot load status, force-close and reopen it and confirm your phone has Wi-Fi or cellular internet. The app needs Xfinity servers to report the network.
Own-router setups are different
With your own router, the app may show plan and usage details but cannot change that router SSID, password, or device access rules.
