Xbox sign-in, downloads, party chat, cloud gaming, and multiplayer can fail during an Xbox service outage. Checking service status takes less time than resetting the console.
These steps apply to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, and the Xbox app on PC and mobile.

Check the official Xbox status page
The official status page is the most reliable place to confirm Microsoft-side trouble.
- Open the Xbox Support site on a phone or computer.
- Go to the Xbox Live Status page.
- Check Core Services, Sign-in, Cloud Gaming, Store, Multiplayer Gaming, and other listed services.
- A green check means the service is operating normally.
- A yellow or red icon means Microsoft has detected a problem.
- Open any flagged service for details and the latest update.
- If the affected service is flagged, wait for Microsoft to resolve it.
Xbox services can fail separately. Store may work while cloud gaming or parties are down.
Rule out a problem on your end
If all status lights are green, check the local network and account session.
- Load a website on a phone using the same Wi-Fi.
- On Xbox, open Settings > General > Network settings.
- Run Test network connection.
- If it fails, restart the router by unplugging it for one minute.
- Hold the console Xbox button for about 10 seconds to power off fully.
- Turn the console back on.
- Remove and re-add or sign out and back into the Xbox account if authentication seems stuck.
If the network test passes but only one feature fails, compare that specific service against the status page again.
What to know during outages
The official Xbox Support account may post outage updates faster than the status page during major incidents.
Xbox Live uses regional infrastructure, so one region can struggle while friends elsewhere connect normally.
Repeatedly retrying a download or cloud session during a confirmed outage will not speed recovery. Pause and try again after the status page shows restored service.
