WhatsApp Business Account Banned or Hacked: How to Recover It

A WhatsApp Business ban and a hacked session are different problems. A ban needs a policy review; a takeover requires re-registering your phone number and removing linked devices.

Does this affect you?

Use this for WhatsApp Business on iPhone or Android, and for WhatsApp Business Platform accounts, when the app says the account is banned or messages are being sent without you.

Request a review for a banned account

Use the in-app review prompt when it is available.

  1. Open WhatsApp Business.
  2. If the account is banned, tap Request a Review on the ban screen.
  3. Write a concise, professional explanation of your business and how you use WhatsApp with customers.
  4. Avoid vague, emotional, or repeated appeals.
  5. Submit the request and wait. Meta often states a review window of about two business days, though some cases take longer.
  6. If the app does not show the review prompt, use the official WhatsApp support form at whatsapp.com rather than a random support email.

If someone took over your number’s session

This is a hack, not a ban appeal.

  1. Open WhatsApp Business on your phone.
  2. Register with your full international phone number.
  3. Enter the six-digit code sent by SMS or phone call. This ends other active sessions using that number.
  4. Open Settings > Linked Devices and remove anything you do not recognize.
  5. Open Settings > Account > Two-step verification and turn on a PIN if it is not already enabled.

More control

Use opted-in messaging only

Business bans often follow unsolicited bulk messages. Build contact lists from customers who clearly agreed to receive WhatsApp messages from you.

Avoid unofficial tools

Modified WhatsApp apps and bulk messaging tools outside the approved Business Platform can trigger bans even if the tool claims to be safe.

Use a two-step PIN

A PIN under Settings > Account > Two-step verification is the best defense against someone re-registering your number on another phone.

Platform accounts face stricter enforcement

If you use the WhatsApp Business Platform through a provider, review Meta’s messaging quality and policy rules because API enforcement can be tied to quality ratings.
