X does not offer a separate instant delete button. Deactivation starts the deletion process: the account disappears right away, then becomes permanently deleted after the waiting period if you do not sign back in.
Does this affect you?
Use this for personal X accounts on x.com or in the X app. Verified organization accounts may need a support route instead.
Deactivate your account
This starts the 30-day countdown toward permanent deletion.
- Open X or go to x.com and sign in.
- Select your profile icon and open Settings and privacy.
- Choose Your account.
- Select Deactivate your account.
- Read the warning about what happens.
- Choose Deactivate and enter your password to confirm.
- Do not sign back in during the 30-day period if you want deletion to finish.
More control
Download your archive first
Before deactivating, open Settings and privacy > Your account > Download an archive of your data. Archive preparation can take a day or more, so request it before starting deletion.
Signing in cancels deletion
If you log back into the account during the 30-day period, X reactivates it. There is no separate undo button; normal sign-in is the undo.
Check connected logins
If you used X to sign into other apps or websites, change those services to a different login method before deactivation. Otherwise, deleting X can lock you out elsewhere.
