A Twitch compromise can affect your channel, whispers, connected apps, and streaming software. Before resetting Twitch, secure the email account attached to Twitch so an attacker cannot intercept recovery links.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Twitch on the website, mobile app, desktop, and connected streaming tools such as OBS or Streamlabs when the password fails, settings changed, or messages were sent without you.
If you can still sign in
Move quickly, especially if you stream.
- Click your Twitch profile icon and open Settings > Security and Privacy.
- Change the password immediately to one not used anywhere else.
- Remove unfamiliar email addresses, phone numbers, third-party apps, or extensions.
- If you stream, open Settings > Stream and rotate the stream key. Reconnect OBS, Streamlabs, or other software with the new key.
- Review channel settings, bio, panels, and linked accounts such as Discord or YouTube. Undo changes you did not make.
If you cannot sign in
Use Twitch recovery only after securing the linked email account.
- Reset the password for the email account tied to Twitch, enable its two-factor authentication, and check for hidden forwarding rules.
- Go to the Twitch login page and choose Trouble logging in.
- Enter the email or phone number on the Twitch account to start password reset.
- If you cannot access either method, open help.twitch.tv and submit an Account/Login Issues support request.
- Include username, original email if known, subscription history, purchases, or other ownership details.

Turn on two-factor authentication
Go to Settings > Security and Privacy > Set Up Two-Factor Authentication. Twitch requires a verified email first and supports SMS or an authenticator app. An authenticator app is less exposed to SIM-swap attacks.
Review Connections
Settings > Connections shows apps and extensions authorized to access Twitch. Revoke old tools you no longer use because 2FA does not limit already-authorized connections.
Avoid phishing messages
Only enter Twitch credentials at twitch.tv. Fake copyright-strike, verification, or partner-program messages are common ways attackers collect passwords.
Protect your stream key
Anyone with the stream key can broadcast to your channel. Do not show it on stream, paste it in chat, or enter it into third-party sites you do not trust.
