A TCL Roku TV that looks completely dead is not always a failed TV. The cause is often a loose cord, a tripped surge protector, a bad outlet, a frozen Roku boot state, or a remote that is not waking the set.
These steps apply to TCL Roku TVs across the 3-Series, 4-Series, 5-Series, 6-Series, and similar Roku TV models.

Check power at the outlet
Start at the wall instead of assuming the TV has failed. TCL support sees simple power-path issues often.
- Confirm the power cord is fully inserted into the back of the TV and the wall outlet.
- Plug a lamp or phone charger into the same outlet to confirm the outlet works.
- If the TV uses a power strip or surge protector, make sure it is switched on and has not tripped.
- Press the strip’s reset button if it has one.
- Try another outlet, ideally one on a different circuit.
- Look closely at the LED on the front or bottom edge of the TV.
A dim or flickering standby light can point toward a failing power supply. If the light becomes steady on another outlet, the original outlet or strip was the problem.
Do a full power cycle
TCL Roku TVs can freeze during startup. A real power cycle drains the set instead of simply putting it in standby.
- With the TV plugged in, hold the physical power button on the TV for about 20 seconds.
- If nothing changes, unplug the TV from the wall.
- Wait a full 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in.
- Press the power button once and give the TV up to a minute to boot.
The physical power button is usually on the back or bottom edge and may share duties with input or menu controls.
Rule out the remote and try reset
- Replace the Roku remote batteries with fresh ones.
- Try the physical power button on the TV.
- If the TV shows a light, logo, or backlight flicker but does not fully start, look for a small pinhole reset button near the ports.
- With the TV plugged in, hold that reset button with a paperclip for 15 to 20 seconds.
- Release it when the TCL or Roku logo appears and let the restart finish.
Not every TCL Roku TV has a pinhole reset. If yours does not, skip that step rather than forcing anything.
Backlight, warranty, and power board signs
If you hear a startup chime or see a faint Roku screen only when shining a flashlight across the panel in a dark room, the TV is powering on but the backlight has likely failed. That is a hardware repair.
Move the TV to a different room and outlet if you can. That rules out house wiring issues a single outlet test can miss.
TCL TVs commonly include a one-year manufacturer warranty. If the TV is still covered, contact TCL with the model and serial number from the rear label before opening the TV.
If the standby light never appears on any known-good outlet and a full 60-second unplug changes nothing, the internal power supply board is the likely failure. On older or lower-cost TCL sets, replacement is often cheaper than repair.
