How to Share a ChatGPT Conversation

ChatGPT shared links let someone read a conversation from a public URL instead of receiving copied text. They are useful for sharing an answer, but they are not private collaboration spaces. Anyone with the link may be able to open it.

Does this affect you?

Use this for ChatGPT on the web, iPhone, or Android when you want to send a conversation link to another person.

Share a conversation on the web

Use chatgpt.com in your browser.

  1. Open the conversation you want to share.
  2. Click the Share icon near the top of the conversation, or use the three-dot menu beside the chat in the sidebar and choose Share.
  3. Review the preview carefully. Anything included in the conversation may be visible.
  4. Click Create link.
  5. Copy or paste the generated URL into email, text, or another chat app.

The person opening the link may not need a ChatGPT account just to view the shared conversation.

Share a conversation on iPhone or Android

The mobile app has the same idea with a phone share sheet.

  1. Open the ChatGPT app.
  2. Open the conversation you want to share.
  3. Tap the three-dot menu.
  4. Choose Share.
  5. Review the preview.
  6. Tap Create link or Share Link, depending on app version.
  7. Use the phone share sheet or copy the link manually.

More control

Shared links are public by design

Do not share a chat containing personal information, passwords, private documents, client details, or anything you would not want seen by someone who receives the link from another person.

Later messages may or may not appear

Shared-link behavior can change by version. If you continue the same conversation after creating the link, open the shared URL yourself to confirm whether later messages are visible.

Delete a shared link

Open Settings > Data Controls > Shared Links on the web, or the equivalent mobile setting. Find the link and choose Delete or Unshare. The old URL should stop opening the conversation.

Disabling sharing is separate

If ChatGPT offers a general link-sharing toggle in Data Controls, turning it off does not necessarily delete links already created. Remove existing shared links separately.
