How to Set Up Profiles in the Netflix App on Your TV

Netflix profiles keep recommendations, watch history, My List, and kids’ settings separate for each person in the household. You can create a basic profile from the TV app with the remote.

More detailed controls, such as PIN locks and exact maturity levels, are managed from Netflix account settings in a browser or mobile app.

Does this affect you?

Use this guide if you want to add a Netflix profile on Samsung, LG, Vizio, Roku, Fire TV, or another TV platform, or if existing profiles are not appearing on the TV.

Add a new profile

  1. Open Netflix on the TV.
  2. Go to the profile selection screen. If Netflix opens inside a profile, press Back or open the profile icon to return to the switcher.
  3. Highlight Add Profile, usually shown with a plus icon.
  4. Enter the profile name with the on-screen keyboard.
  5. Choose an avatar if prompted.
  6. Select Continue or Save.

The new profile appears on the profile selection screen. Netflix typically allows up to five profiles per account, so Add Profile may disappear if the account is already at the limit.

Create a Kids profile

  1. Choose Add Profile from the profile screen.
  2. Enter a name.
  3. Turn on the Kid? or child profile option if shown.
  4. Save the profile.

A Kids profile automatically limits content to age-appropriate titles and hides mature search results. To fine-tune maturity ratings or require a PIN for a profile, open netflix.com/account in a browser and use Profile & Parental Controls.

Fix profiles not showing on the TV

  • Sign out of Netflix on the TV and sign back in to refresh the account data.
  • Fully close and reopen Netflix instead of only backing out.
  • Check the TV app store for a Netflix update.
  • If Netflix always opens directly into one profile, look inside Netflix settings for an auto-launch or profile-start option.
  • If the profile was just created on another device, wait a minute or two for syncing.

Most Netflix TV apps let you return to the profile switcher by selecting the current profile avatar or name from the side menu or account area.

Profile transfer and autoplay settings

If someone is moving to their own Netflix account, use Profile Transfer from netflix.com or the mobile app. The TV app does not start that process, but it will reflect the change after sync.

Autoplay next episode and autoplay previews are also controlled per profile from Netflix account settings in a browser. Change them there if only one household member dislikes autoplay.
