Samsung Modes are saved phone profiles that change several settings together. A Mode can silence notifications, dim the screen, limit apps, change sounds, or adjust connectivity with one tap or on a schedule.
These steps apply to Samsung Galaxy phones running One UI 5 and later, where Modes and Routines live together in Settings.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if you want a simple Sleep, Driving, Work, Focus, or personal profile without building a full automation from scratch.
Turn On a Built-In Mode
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines > Modes.
- Choose a built-in Mode such as Sleep or Driving.
- Review the summary of settings it will change.
- Adjust any listed setting, such as Do Not Disturb, grayscale, notifications, or brightness.
- Tap Turn on now, or set a schedule or condition.
When a Mode is active, Samsung shows an icon in the status bar. Open the Mode again to turn it off or change its settings.
Create a Custom Mode
- Open Settings > Modes and Routines > Modes.
- Tap the plus button.
- Name the Mode and choose an icon.
- Under settings to change, add the toggles you want the Mode to control.
- Choose notification rules, sound, vibration, brightness, grayscale, Wi-Fi, mobile data, or other available options.
- Tap Save.
Schedule a Mode
Inside any Mode, tap Schedule and choose times, days, or a condition such as connecting to car Bluetooth. Sleep Mode is especially useful on an automatic schedule so you do not have to remember it nightly.

Modes and Routines Are Different
A Mode is a profile you turn on manually or by a simple schedule. A Routine is an if-this-then-that automation that triggers itself from conditions. They share the same Samsung menu because they can work together.
Manual Modes Stay On
If you turn on a Mode manually and do not set an ending schedule, it stays on until you turn it off.
Battery Depends on the Settings
Modes themselves do not drain battery. Battery impact comes from the settings you include, such as lower brightness or restricted background data.
