A Samsung refrigerator leak can show up in the crisper drawer, freezer floor, under the fridge, or near the ice maker. The location is the biggest clue, so start by finding where water appears first.
These steps apply to Samsung French-door and side-by-side refrigerators with built-in ice makers and water dispensers.

Most Samsung refrigerator leaks come from a clogged defrost drain, a loose or leaking filter or water line, or an overflowing ice maker. Each leaves water in a slightly different place.
Water pooling inside the fridge or freezer
Interior pooling is often a clogged defrost drain.
- Remove lower bins and shelves so you can see the rear freezer area.
- Look for the small defrost drain hole near the lower rear panel.
- If ice covers it, slowly flush warm, not boiling, water into the drain with a turkey baster or funnel.
- Use a flexible pipe cleaner or thin tubing gently if debris blocks the tube.
- Dry the area and check again after 24 hours.
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting lines or filters. Unplug the refrigerator before pulling it out or reaching behind it. Keep towels and a shallow pan under fittings because lines can hold water even after the valve is off.
Water pooling on the floor outside the fridge
- With power off, pull the refrigerator away from the wall and inspect the supply line for drips or damp spots.
- Check the compression fitting where the line enters the refrigerator.
- Make sure the water filter is fully seated and twisted to lock.
- Inspect the filter housing for cracks.
- Dry all connection points, restore water, and watch for fresh drips.
Ice maker overflowing or leaking
- Check whether water is overflowing the ice maker fill tray.
- Turn off the ice maker and see whether water still trickles in.
- Use a bubble level to confirm the refrigerator sits level front-to-back and side-to-side.
- If the fill valve is stuck open, have it replaced by a technician.
Replace Samsung water filters about every six months, sooner if flow slows or water is hard. An old or poorly seated filter can contribute to repeat leaks.
If the leak appears behind interior panels or the fill valve is confirmed stuck, stop the water supply and schedule service. Those areas are not meant for routine user access.
