Rocket League is extremely sensitive to delay because the ball, cars, and collisions rely on fast server updates. High ping can make clean hits feel late, make the ball jump, or cause your car to respond after you press a button.
These steps apply to Rocket League on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Use this if your ping number is high, the ball teleports, hits do not register correctly, or your car feels delayed online.
Check and fix your matchmaking region
Region is the first thing to check because a far-away server creates high ping even on a good connection.
- Open Rocket League Settings or Options.
- Go to Gameplay and find the Region setting.
- Set it to Automatic, or manually choose the region closest to your physical location.
- If you party with friends in another country, agree on one shared region before queueing.
- Remember that the party host can influence matchmaking region.
- Return to the main menu and join a fresh match after changing the setting.
If ping drops after switching regions, distance to the server was the problem, not your console, PC, or car settings.
Fix the connection itself
Use these steps when you are already on the nearest region and ping is still high or unstable.
- Restart the router by unplugging it for about one minute.
- Wait for it to fully reconnect before queueing.
- Use wired Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi if possible.
- Pause downloads, streaming, cloud backups, and game updates on the home network.
- Check router QoS or bandwidth control settings.
- Disable VPN while playing.
- On PlayStation or Xbox, run the built-in network test from console settings.
Wi-Fi jitter can be enough to make Rocket League feel bad even when ordinary browsing seems fine.
When the issue is outside the game
If ping is high in several regions after a router restart and wired test, your ISP route or local network hardware may be the cause.
If other online games lag at the same time, troubleshoot the network broadly. If only Rocket League has trouble, check Epic or Psyonix support for service issues and regional server problems.
