What Spaces are for
Spaces are most useful for ongoing research, not a one-off question.
- A normal Perplexity search answers one question and shows sources.
- A Space keeps files, searches, sources, and instructions together under one topic.
- Custom instructions can focus answers, such as prioritizing recent sources or limiting results to a market or region.
- Spaces can be private or shared so others can view or contribute.
- Examples include home buying research, competitor analysis, school projects, travel planning, or product comparisons.
Create and use your first Space
Set it up before starting the research thread.
- Open Perplexity and sign in.
- Open Spaces from the sidebar or menu.
- Choose Create Space or the plus icon.
- Name it specifically, such as Kitchen Renovation instead of Ideas.
- Add a description and optional instructions.
- Upload relevant PDFs, notes, or spreadsheets if needed.
- Run searches from inside the Space so results and sources stay attached.
- Use Share to invite someone else with view or contribution permissions.

Shared Spaces support teamwork
People with edit access can run searches and add files to the same Space, making it easier to split research without losing sources.
Spaces can become a bibliography
Because Perplexity emphasizes citations, a Space becomes a running list of sources used for the topic. This is helpful when you need to cite or revisit information later.
Free accounts have lower file limits
If a document will not upload, the issue may be file size, upload count, or plan limits. Pro accounts generally raise those caps.
Clean up finished Spaces
Archive, rename, or mark completed Spaces so current research stays easy to find in the sidebar.
