An HP printer usually slows down because of quality settings, weak Wi-Fi, complex documents, stuck jobs, old firmware, or driver problems. Most cases are settings or connection issues, not repairs.

Use this if an HP OfficeJet, DeskJet, ENVY, or LaserJet prints much slower than expected on Windows or Mac.
Lower the print quality setting
Best or High quality can be dramatically slower, especially on inkjet models.
- Open the document and choose Print.
- Open Printer Properties on Windows, or Show Details and printer options on Mac.
- Find Print Quality under Paper/Quality, Advanced, or a similar tab.
- Choose Normal for everyday documents or Draft/Fast for quick readable output.
- Use Best only when the document needs that quality, such as photos.
Check connection and driver health
Use this if quality changes do not help or the slowdown started suddenly.
- If using Wi-Fi, check signal strength and move the printer closer to the router for testing.
- Try USB temporarily if possible to compare speed.
- Check HP Smart or HP Support for firmware updates.
- Install the latest full driver for the exact model from HP Support.
- On Windows, run HP Print and Scan Doctor and cancel anything stuck in the print queue.

Laser printers are naturally faster for text
If you compare a budget inkjet to a laser printer, the laser will usually win on plain text pages. That difference is expected.
Complex files take longer
Photo-heavy documents, gradients, many fonts, and very high-resolution images take time for the computer and printer to process.
Split huge jobs
Older or budget printers with limited memory may crawl or stall on very large files. Print a few pages at a time when needed.
