Wi-Fi Calling routes calls and texts through your Wi-Fi connection when cellular service is weak. It is especially useful in basements, rural homes, thick-walled buildings, and rooms with strong Wi-Fi but poor cell signal.

Use this if your carrier and phone support Wi-Fi Calling. Major US carriers and many sub-brands support it, but the exact plan still matters.
Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on iPhone
iPhone setup includes an emergency address confirmation.
- Open Settings > Cellular. If you use dual SIM, choose the line you want to configure.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling.
- Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on This iPhone.
- Confirm or enter the emergency address used for calls made over Wi-Fi.
- After setup, the phone automatically chooses Wi-Fi Calling when Wi-Fi is strong and cellular signal is weak.
Turn on Wi-Fi Calling on Android
Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer and carrier.
- Open Settings > Network & internet, or Connections on Samsung phones.
- Tap Wi-Fi Calling. If it is not visible, check Mobile Network or SIM settings.
- Turn the toggle on.
- Confirm the emergency address if asked.
- Leave Wi-Fi on so the phone can switch automatically when needed.
More control
Carrier support is required
The phone setting may not appear unless the carrier and plan support Wi-Fi Calling. Some prepaid or older plans require activation through the carrier account or app.
Dropped Wi-Fi calls often mean weak Wi-Fi
If calls fail in one room, the Wi-Fi signal there may be unstable. Improve router placement or coverage before blaming the calling feature.
International use depends on the plan
Some carriers allow Wi-Fi Calling while traveling to call home without roaming charges, but rules vary. Check your plan before relying on it abroad.
It does not change normal app data
Wi-Fi Calling affects calls and texts. Apps and browsing still use Wi-Fi or cellular data according to normal phone settings.
