Chromecast with Google TV is a full streaming device with its own remote and home screen. Unlike older Chromecast models, it does not rely only on casting from a phone.
Setup usually takes about ten minutes: connect HDMI and power, pair the remote, join Wi-Fi, sign in with Google, and choose apps.

Plug in and complete first setup
- Plug the Chromecast into an open HDMI port on the TV.
- Connect the included power adapter to an outlet. Do not rely on the TV’s USB port.
- Turn on the TV and switch to the matching HDMI input.
- When the Google TV welcome screen appears, pair the remote by holding Back and Home together for about three seconds.
- Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Sign in with your Google account.
- Follow the prompts to choose apps and recommendation settings.
When setup finishes, the Google TV home screen appears and you can install more apps from the built-in store.
Fix a remote that will not pair
- Check that the batteries are inserted in the correct direction.
- Try fresh batteries if the included pair seems weak.
- Point the remote toward the Chromecast device, not just the TV.
- Unplug the Chromecast for 15 seconds, plug it back in, and try Back + Home again when the Google TV logo appears.
- Use the Google TV app on iPhone or Android as a temporary remote if needed.
After setup, pair the physical remote again from Settings > Remotes & Accessories > Add accessory.
Profiles, casting, and replacing an old Chromecast
Google TV supports multiple profiles with separate recommendations and watch history. Add profiles from Settings > System > Add & manage users or the profile area, depending on software version.
The original Chromecast-style casting still works. Open a supported app on your phone, tap the Cast icon, and select the Chromecast to send video or audio to the TV.
If you are replacing an older Chromecast, you can simply unplug the old one and set up the new device. The old Chromecast will stop appearing as an active cast target once it is offline and unused.
