How to Print Without a White Border (Borderless Printing)

Borderless photo print with no white margin

Borderless printing lets ink reach the edge of the paper. It is common for photos, but not every printer supports it for every paper size or paper type. Most borderless problems come from choosing plain paper, an unsupported size, or a document without enough bleed.

Does this affect you?

Use this if photos or designs keep printing with white margins, the borderless option is missing, or one edge still shows a thin white line.

Choose a supported borderless size

On many printers, borderless is built into specific paper-size entries.

  1. Open the print dialog and choose printer properties or advanced settings.
  2. Select a paper size labeled Borderless, such as 4×6 Borderless or Letter Borderless if supported.
  3. Set media type to photo paper or the paper actually loaded.
  4. Use print preview to confirm the image fills the sheet.
  5. Print one test before a batch.

Allow a slight crop or bleed

Borderless printing usually enlarges the image slightly so ink reaches past the edges.

  1. Use a photo or design that extends beyond the final trim edge.
  2. Avoid important text or faces right at the edge.
  3. Enable fit, fill, or borderless expansion if the driver offers it.
  4. If the result cuts off too much, reduce expansion one step or adjust the crop.

More control

Not all printers support full-page borderless

Many printers support borderless on photo sizes but not on plain Letter or A4. If no borderless size appears, the model may not support that combination.

Paper type can hide the option

Choose photo or specialty paper before checking size options. Plain paper can disable borderless on some drivers.

A white sliver means mismatch

A small white edge often means the loaded paper is not exactly the selected size. Try a closer size or manufacturer paper.

Update the driver

Install the full driver from the printer maker if borderless options are missing from a generic Windows or AirPrint driver.
