A test page is a quick way to separate printer problems from document problems. If a test page prints cleanly, the printer is connected and able to print; if it is blank or streaky, the issue is likely ink, toner, printhead, or paper feed.

Print a test page from Windows
This works for printers already added by USB or Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings and go to Bluetooth & devices > Printers & scanners.
- Select the printer and open Printer properties.
- On the General tab, click Print Test Page.
- Confirm whether the Windows test page prints correctly.
Print a test page on Mac
macOS usually uses the printer utility or a small document as the test.
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners and select the printer.
- Click Options & Supplies and check the Utility tab for Open Printer Utility.
- Use the manufacturer utility test print or nozzle check if available.
- If no utility exists, print a short TextEdit note as a practical test page.
Print from the printer itself
This tests the printer without depending on a computer.
- On a screen-equipped printer, open Settings, Reports, Maintenance, or Setup.
- Choose Print Report, Configuration Page, Network Report, or Test Page.
- On button-only printers, use the model-specific button combination from the manual.
- Use the page to check IP address, firmware, connection status, and print quality.
More control
A clean test page rules out many hardware issues
Solid text and color on the test page means the print mechanism, supplies, and paper feed are mostly working. A file-specific issue is more likely.
Blank or streaky means supply or printhead trouble
If the test page itself is bad, check ink or toner levels, nozzles, cartridges, or printhead condition.
It will not catch every app problem
Margins, missing images, and odd layouts can still come from one app or file even when a test page is perfect.
