Factory resetting an LG TV returns webOS to its initial setup state. It clears Wi-Fi information, app logins, picture adjustments, sound settings, and other saved preferences.
Use a reset for a badly misbehaving TV or before selling or giving it away. For a simple freeze, restart first because a factory reset cannot be undone.

These steps apply to LG smart TVs running webOS. The wording can vary slightly by webOS version, but the reset option is normally in the General settings area.
Factory reset with the remote
- Press the Settings button on the LG remote.
- Open All Settings.
- Go to General. On some models, open General > System.
- Choose Reset to Initial Settings.
- Enter the PIN if prompted. The default on many LG TVs is 0000 unless someone changed it.
- Confirm the reset and wait for the TV to restart.
Afterward, the TV will run the setup wizard again and ask for Wi-Fi before the LG Content Store and smart features can work.
Restart an unresponsive LG TV first
If the remote or menus will not respond, try a full restart before wiping the TV.
- Unplug the TV from the wall for 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and let it fully start.
- If it is still stuck, find the physical power button on the TV.
- Hold the TV power button for about 10 to 15 seconds to force a restart.
- When the menus respond again, use the Settings reset path if a factory reset is still needed.
PIN and account notes
If the TV asks for a PIN and 0000 does not work, check the Safety or Lock settings if you can still access them. Someone may have changed the default PIN.
A reset should clear app sign-ins, but if you are handing the TV to someone else, check important apps and sign out manually first when possible. That is especially wise for cable-provider apps or any service with purchases attached.
If the reset will not finish
If the TV hangs during reset, unplug it for a full 60 seconds and try once more. Do not repeat failed resets endlessly. A reset that consistently fails can point to hardware trouble or damaged storage, and LG support is the better next step.
