Google Fiber Router Setup: Step by Step

Google Fiber router setup in app

Google Fiber router setup happens mostly in the Google Fiber app rather than a traditional router web page. Once the Fiber Jack is installed, the router setup is usually quick.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Google Fiber Wifi routers, Webpass routers, newer Wi-Fi 6 hardware, and Google Fiber mesh points managed through the app.

Set up the router in the Google Fiber app

Have the Google account tied to Fiber service ready.

  1. Connect the router to the Fiber Jack with the included Ethernet cable.
  2. Plug the router into power and wait for the top light to become solid or ready.
  3. Install the Google Fiber app and sign in.
  4. Tap Set up a new device and follow Bluetooth or QR-code pairing prompts.
  5. Choose a Wi-Fi name and password.
  6. Wait while the app applies settings and activates the router.

Add mesh points

Mesh points extend the same network name.

  1. Plug the mesh point into power between the router and weak area.
  2. Open the Google Fiber app and choose Set up a new device.
  3. Select Add a mesh point when prompted.
  4. Follow the pairing prompts.
  5. Check signal strength in the Network tab and move the point closer if needed.

More control

Change Wi-Fi in the app

Open Network, then Wifi network, to edit the Wi-Fi name and password. Devices must reconnect afterward.

Bluetooth helps pairing

Turn on Bluetooth and stand near the router or mesh point during setup.

Web portal is limited but useful

fiber.google.com can provide basic network management from a computer, though the app usually has more features.
