Emergency SOS via satellite lets an iPhone connect to emergency services when there is no cellular signal and no Wi-Fi. It is designed as a last-resort emergency fallback for remote areas, trails, rural roads, and dead zones.
It requires iPhone 14 or later, satellite coverage in a supported region, and a clear view of the sky and horizon.

Contact Emergency Services by Satellite
- Try calling the local emergency number, such as 911 in the US.
- If the call cannot connect, choose the option to text emergency services by satellite.
- Move outside with a clear view of the sky and horizon. Avoid heavy tree cover, buildings, and canyon walls.
- Follow the on-screen aiming guide to point the iPhone toward the satellite.
- Answer the emergency questionnaire so responders receive key details.
- Keep following the aiming prompts while messages send.

- Open Settings > Emergency SOS.
- Find the Satellite section.
- Tap Try Demo or the similar demo option shown.
- Practice aiming and connection steps without contacting emergency services.

Information Shared
Once connected, iPhone can share location, elevation, Medical ID, emergency contacts, questionnaire answers, and battery level with responders.
Availability
Emergency SOS via satellite works only on eligible iPhones in supported countries and regions. It will not work indoors or without a clear sky view.

Apple has offered the feature free for a period after activating an eligible iPhone. Check your device and region for current terms because availability can change.
Normal Calls First
Satellite texting is slower than a normal call. Use it after regular emergency calling fails.
