Wi-Fi 6E is Wi-Fi 6 with access to the 6 GHz band in addition to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. The extra band is less crowded, but it only helps devices that support 6E too.

What 6E adds
The benefit is cleaner spectrum, not magic extra internet speed.
- 6 GHz gives compatible devices a newer, less crowded band.
- Both the router and the phone, laptop, or device must support Wi-Fi 6E to use 6 GHz.
- 6E helps most in apartments, dense neighborhoods, and homes with many Wi-Fi devices.
- A good Wi-Fi 6 router is often enough for single-family homes with ordinary device counts.
More control
6 GHz has shorter range
Higher frequencies do not travel through walls as well. Wi-Fi 6E often works best in mesh systems or close-range rooms.
Check your actual devices
Many smart home devices, printers, streamers, and older laptops do not support 6E and will keep using 2.4 or 5 GHz.
Consider Wi-Fi 7 pricing
If buying equipment for many years, compare Wi-Fi 7 prices because Wi-Fi 7 also uses 6 GHz and adds newer efficiency features.
It does not upgrade your internet plan
Wi-Fi 6E only improves the wireless connection inside the home. A slow provider plan remains slow.
