If the dishwasher completes a cycle and drains but dishes still have food, grease, or cloudy film, the problem is usually loading, spray flow, water temperature, detergent, or a dirty filter.
This applies to most Bosch, Whirlpool, GE, Samsung, LG, KitchenAid, and similar built-in dishwashers.

Use this if dishes come out dirty even though there is no standing water left in the tub. If water remains in the bottom, troubleshoot draining first.
Check loading and spray arms
- Spin each spray arm by hand before starting a cycle.
- Move tall pots, pans, baking sheets, or utensils that block spray arm rotation.
- Do not nest bowls or stack plates tightly together.
- Face dirty surfaces toward the center where spray is strongest.
- Leave gaps so water and detergent can reach every surface.
Before doing hands-on checks, turn the dishwasher off at the wall switch or breaker. If you will check hoses or water connections, shut off the water supply too.

- Do not work around standing water with power on.
- If the dishwasher is under warranty, smells hot or electrical, leaks heavily, or needs internal door or pump work, call support or an appliance technician.
Clean spray arm holes and the filter
- Turn power off.
- Remove the lower spray arm according to the manual.
- Hold it up to light and look for blocked holes.
- Clear clogs with a toothpick or thin wire.
- Remove the bottom filter.
- Rinse the filter under hot water and brush away trapped food.
- Reinstall the filter and spray arm securely so the arm spins freely.
Check water temperature and detergent
- Run the kitchen hot tap before starting the dishwasher so the first fill is hot.
- Confirm the water heater is set around 120F if safe for your home.
- Use fresh detergent. Humidity can ruin pods and powder.
- Do not overfill or underfill the detergent cup.
- Use rinse aid if the issue is spots or cloudy film rather than food residue.
If spray arms, filter, hot water, and detergent all check out, the wash pump may not be producing enough pressure. Hard water scale can also narrow spray holes, coat the heater, and weaken cleaning. Run a dishwasher-safe descaler on an empty cycle.
Call a technician if cleaning remains poor after loading, spray, filter, temperature, and detergent checks. Pump pressure and heating element faults are not simple user repairs on most models.
