Chrome problems on Android usually come from old cache files, corrupted local settings, an outdated app build, low phone storage, or a network issue. Your synced bookmarks and passwords are stored in your Google account, not only inside the phone app.
These steps apply to Chrome on Samsung, Google Pixel, Motorola, and similar Android phones.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if Chrome will not open, crashes, freezes on a blank page, or refuses to load websites while other parts of the phone seem normal.
Clear Chrome Cache
- Open Settings > Apps.
- Tap Chrome.
- Tap Storage or Storage usage.
- Tap Clear cache.
- Open Chrome and try loading a page again.
Clear cache first. It removes temporary website files without resetting Chrome or deleting synced bookmarks and passwords.
Update Chrome
- Open the Play Store.
- Tap your profile icon.
- Tap Manage apps & device.
- Look for Chrome in available updates.
- Tap Update if it appears.
- Restart the phone after updating and test Chrome again.
Reset Chrome Completely
- Open Settings > Apps > Chrome.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear storage or Clear data.
- Confirm the reset.
- Open Chrome and sign back in if needed.
This removes local Chrome settings and local browsing data that has not synced, so check Chrome sync first if tabs or history matter to you.
If Chrome Still Fails
Free Phone Storage
Open Storage settings. If the phone is above about 90 percent full, Chrome may not have room for temporary files. Remove unused apps, downloads, or backed-up photos.
Test Another Network
If Chrome works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, or the reverse, troubleshoot that connection rather than Chrome itself. Toggle Airplane Mode to refresh radios.
Restart
A normal phone restart clears background processes that can affect Chrome and other apps.
Reinstall or Disable and Re-Enable
Some phones allow Chrome to be uninstalled; others only let you disable it or reset it to the factory version. Reinstall or re-enable it from Play Store afterward.
