Canon Printer Won’t Connect to Wi-Fi: How to Fix It

Canon printer Wi-Fi connection failure

Canon printers usually fail Wi-Fi setup because the signal is weak, the router is using a 5GHz-only or hidden network the printer cannot handle, or the printer is still holding an old saved password. A fresh setup attempt is usually faster than trying to repair the old profile.

Does this affect you?

Use this guide if the Canon printer cannot find Wi-Fi, fails after entering the password, connects briefly then drops, or must be re-added after a router change.

Reconnect with the printer Wi-Fi setup wizard

This clears the broken attempt and joins the network again.

  1. Move the printer close to the router temporarily.
  2. On the printer, open Setup > Device Settings > LAN settings > Wireless LAN setup, or the closest matching menu.
  3. Choose standard wireless setup and select your Wi-Fi network name.
  4. Enter the password exactly, including capitalization. If the network is hidden, consider broadcasting the SSID during setup.
  5. Confirm the router has a 2.4GHz network. If it uses a combined band name, temporarily split 2.4GHz and 5GHz so the printer can join 2.4GHz.
  6. Print a network configuration page to confirm the printer has a valid IP address.
  7. Add the printer again on Windows or Mac after it is connected.

Fix a connection that drops later

Use this when setup succeeds but the printer disconnects after minutes or hours.

  1. Check printer power-saving settings and temporarily disable automatic power-off or very deep sleep.
  2. Set a DHCP reservation or fixed IP for the printer in your router so its address does not keep changing.
  3. Update Canon printer firmware from Canon Support if your model has an update.
  4. Restart the router by unplugging it for about 30 seconds, then let Wi-Fi fully return.
