Brother Printer Wireless Setup: Connect to Wi-Fi Step by Step

Brother printer wireless setup screen

Brother printers can join Wi-Fi through the Brother Mobile Connect app or directly from the printer control panel. The app is easiest for many people, while the control panel method works well if you do not want another app or the phone cannot detect the printer.

Does this affect you?

Use this guide for a new Brother printer, a moved printer, or a printer that needs to connect after a router, network name, or Wi-Fi password change.

Set up Wi-Fi with Brother Mobile Connect

This method walks through setup from your phone.

  1. Install Brother Mobile Connect from the App Store or Google Play.
  2. Turn on the printer and place it near the router during setup.
  3. Open the app and choose to register or add a printer.
  4. Follow the prompts. The app may find the printer on the network or temporarily connect your phone to the printer setup Wi-Fi signal.
  5. Enter the Wi-Fi name and password when asked.
  6. After confirmation, print a test page from the app.
  7. Install the full Brother driver on Windows or Mac afterward so normal print dialogs can use the printer.

Set up Wi-Fi from the printer control panel

Use this method if the app is not available or does not find the printer.

  1. On the printer, open Settings or the gear/wrench menu.
  2. Choose Network > WLAN or Wi-Fi > Setup Wizard.
  3. Select your Wi-Fi network name from the list.
  4. Enter the Wi-Fi password exactly, including capital letters.
  5. Confirm and wait for the success message or Wi-Fi signal icon.
  6. If your router supports WPS, you can choose WPS in the WLAN menu and press the router WPS button within two minutes.
  7. Install Brother software on your computer after the printer is connected.

Network not showing

Many Brother printers only support 2.4GHz Wi-Fi. If your router uses one combined name for 2.4GHz and 5GHz, temporarily split the bands or select the specific 2.4GHz network if one is available.

Printing from iPhone without the app

After the printer is on the same Wi-Fi as the iPhone, most Brother models support AirPrint. Tap Share, then Print, from apps such as Photos, Mail, and Safari.

Changed router or password

A Brother printer does not automatically know a new Wi-Fi name or password. Repeat the app setup or control-panel setup with the new details.
