How to Recover Your Battle.net Account or Reset the Password

A Battle.net account controls Blizzard game access, purchases, and the Battle.net desktop app. Password resets are simple when the email is available; lost Authenticator recovery can take longer.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Battle.net accounts used with Overwatch, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Hearthstone, and Blizzard games on PC, Mac, or linked consoles.

Reset your password at account.battle.net

You do not need the desktop app for this.

  1. Go to account.battle.net and choose Log In.
  2. Select Forgot Password.
  3. Enter the Battle.net email address. If BattleTag sign-in is available, remember that password reset still needs the email on file.
  4. Complete any on-screen verification.
  5. Open Blizzard’s reset email.
  6. Use the link to set and confirm a new password.
  7. Sign in on account.battle.net or the Battle.net app with the new password.

If you are locked out by two-factor authentication

Use this if you lost the phone with Battle.net Authenticator.

  1. After entering the password, look for Cannot access your Authenticator or a similar link.
  2. Use another verification option if offered, such as backup email, SMS, Authenticator serial, or restore code.
  3. If none work, submit a request through Blizzard Account Support to remove the Authenticator.
  4. Provide ownership details such as purchase history, linked email, past tickets, or account information.
  5. After access returns, set up two-factor authentication again on a device you will keep.

More control

Save Authenticator recovery details

When setting up Battle.net Authenticator, save the serial number and restore code somewhere outside the app. Without them, recovery usually requires slower manual verification.

Check spam and old emails

Search for Blizzard or Battle.net in spam and promotions. If you are unsure which email owns the account, try addresses used for past game purchases.

Console accounts are separate

PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo accounts may be linked to Battle.net but have separate passwords. Resetting Battle.net does not change console login details.
