Battery Saver reduces background activity and some performance features so an Android phone lasts longer on a charge. Samsung calls the same general idea Power saving mode.
These steps apply to Android 12 through Android 15 on Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and similar phones.
Does This Affect You?
Use this if your phone is low on battery, you want it to last through the day, or you want Battery Saver to turn on automatically.
Turn On Battery Saver Manually
- Open Settings.
- Tap Battery. On Samsung, open Battery and device care > Battery.
- Tap Battery Saver or Samsung Power saving mode.
- Turn it on.
- On Pixel and many others, you can also use the Battery Saver Quick Settings tile.
Turn It On Automatically
- Open Battery Saver or Power saving settings.
- Tap Set a schedule or Turn on automatically.
- Choose a battery percentage, such as 20 percent.
- Confirm the setting.
The phone turns Battery Saver on at that level and usually turns it off again after charging past a certain point.
What Battery Saver Changes
- Limits background data and app refresh.
- May delay non-urgent notifications.
- Can disable always-listening Hey Google detection.
- May reduce location activity.
- Can lower screen refresh rate on 90Hz or 120Hz phones.
- Samsung may offer a stronger Maximum power saving mode with a simplified Home Screen and limited apps.
Performance and Safety Notes
Battery Saver can make animations or games feel less smooth, but it does not damage the battery. It is safe to run often or even most of the time if you prefer longer battery life over full performance. Motorola also includes Adaptive Battery nearby, which is worth using alongside Battery Saver.
