Forgot Your Amazon Password? How to Reset It

If you forgot your Amazon password, use Amazon’s password reset instead of guessing. Repeated failed attempts can trigger extra verification and make sign-in slower.

Does this affect you?

Use this for Amazon.com, the Amazon Shopping app, Alexa, Fire TV, Fire tablets, Kindle services, and other Amazon-connected devices.

Reset your Amazon password

The reset flow uses a one-time password sent to your account contact method.

  1. Open the Amazon sign-in page.
  2. Choose Forgot Password.
  3. Enter the email address or phone number on the account.
  4. Select how to receive the one-time password, such as email or text, if Amazon offers options.
  5. Enter the newest OTP when it arrives.
  6. Create a new password you have not used elsewhere.
  7. Sign back in on Amazon apps, browsers, Alexa, Fire devices, and any Login with Amazon apps that ask for the new password.

If the reset code does not arrive

Check delivery issues before requesting too many codes.

  1. For email, check spam, junk, promotions, and search for Amazon.
  2. For text, confirm phone signal and short-code message delivery.
  3. Wait a few minutes before using resend.
  4. Make sure you entered the exact email or phone number on the account.
  5. If Two-Step Verification is enabled and your code does not work, use a saved backup code if available.
  6. If you no longer control the recovery email or phone, contact Amazon support through amazon.com/contact-us for identity verification.

More control

Update Login & Security

After signing in, open Your Account > Login & Security and confirm your email, phone number, password, and two-step verification settings are current.

Use a password manager

A password manager can create and store a long unique Amazon password, reducing both forgotten-password resets and reused-password account takeovers.

Check for suspicious activity

If the reset was unexpected or your password stopped working suddenly, review orders, addresses, payment methods, and archived orders for anything unfamiliar.
