A Speed Queen washer that stops with water in the tub or leaves clothes soaking wet usually has a drain restriction or a safety switch interruption. Speed Queen machines are built to be serviceable, so a few basic checks can narrow the cause quickly.
These steps apply to Speed Queen TR and AWN top-load washers and FF front-load home models.

No-drain symptoms are commonly caused by a clogged pump filter, kinked drain hose, overloaded or unbalanced tub, lid/door switch problem, or a failing drain pump.
Clear the pump filter and drain hose
- Unplug the washer or switch off its breaker.
- Find the lower pump access panel according to the model manual.
- Place towels and a shallow pan under the filter area.
- Turn the filter counterclockwise and let water drain out.
- Remove coins, buttons, lint, socks, or small objects from the filter.
- Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs at the pump and standpipe.
- Reinstall the filter and run Drain & Spin or Spin.
Never run the washer with an access panel removed. Water from the pump area may be warm or soapy, so drain slowly and keep towels ready.
Check load balance and lid or door switch
- Redistribute heavy items that have bunched to one side.
- Avoid washing a single heavy comforter or towel load without balancing items.
- On top-load models, make sure the lid closes and latches.
- On front-load models, confirm the door is fully latched.
- Restart from Spin or Drain & Spin and watch whether the cycle finishes.
If the filter is clear and the hose is not kinked, listen during drain. No pump sound may mean an electrical pump failure. A hum with no water movement can mean a jammed or broken impeller.
If the lid or door latches but the washer behaves as if it is open, the switch may need replacement. This is usually a smaller repair than a pump.
Call a technician if you are not comfortable testing electrical parts or if the washer is still under warranty. Speed Queen parts are generally available, and these machines are often worth repairing.
