A Samsung washer showing NF, nF, or 4NF is not sensing enough water entering the drum. Most no-fill errors come from the home water supply path, not a major washer failure.
These steps apply to Samsung top-load and front-load washers with electronic letter-based error codes.
Does this affect you?
NF means no fill or no flow. The washer expected water and did not receive it fast enough. Closed valves, kinked hoses, clogged inlet screens, low water pressure, and failed inlet valves are the usual causes.
Check the water supply valves and hoses
- Make sure both hot and cold valves behind the washer are fully open.
- Inspect both inlet hoses for kinks, pinches, or crushing behind the machine.
- Check that hoses are attached firmly at the wall and washer.
- Cancel the cycle, correct any supply issue, and restart.
Clean the inlet screens
Small mesh screens inside the washer hose connections can clog with minerals or sediment.
- Turn off both water valves.
- Unplug the washer.
- Unscrew the inlet hoses from the back of the washer with towels ready.
- Remove the small screens gently if needed and clean them with a soft brush under running water.
- Reinstall screens, reconnect hoses, turn water on, and check for leaks.
Expect water to spill from hoses even after valves are off. Use a shallow container and towels. Do not work around the washer while it is plugged in and pulled away from the wall.
Check water pressure and the fill valve
- Compare water pressure at a nearby faucet.
- If the whole home has weak flow, check the main shutoff or plumbing before blaming the washer.
- Samsung washers need enough pressure to fill within a timed window.
- If pressure is normal and screens are clean, the internal water inlet valve may have failed.
On a new installation, confirm shipping bolts were removed and both hoses are connected to the correct valves. In hard-water homes, cleaning inlet screens every 6 to 12 months can prevent repeat NF errors.
Call a technician if valves, hoses, screens, and pressure all check out but NF remains. Testing the internal fill valve requires panel access and a meter.
