Kasa cameras use the Kasa Smart app, the same app TP-Link uses for many plugs and switches. Setup starts with Bluetooth pairing, then moves the camera onto 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi.
These steps apply to TP-Link Kasa Smart cameras, including Kasa Cam, KC series, and Kasa Spot models.

Use this if you have a new Kasa camera and need it streaming to your phone. Have the Wi-Fi password ready and turn Bluetooth on before starting.
Set up the camera in Kasa Smart
- Plug in the camera.
- Wait for the status light to blink, often orange or blue depending on model.
- Download the Kasa Smart app.
- Create an account or sign in.
- Tap the + icon.
- Choose Add Device.
- Select Cameras.
- Pick your exact camera model.
- Follow the prompts while the app pairs over Bluetooth.
- Enter your 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi name and password.
- Wait for the app to confirm the camera connected.
- Name the camera and assign it to a room.
Kasa cameras generally do not join 5 GHz-only networks. If setup fails, move the camera near the router and use a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi name.
Set up motion detection and alerts
- Open the camera live view in the Kasa Smart app.
- Tap the gear icon.
- Open Detection or Motion Detection.
- Turn motion detection on.
- Adjust sensitivity.
- Draw a detection zone if your model supports it.
- Open Notifications.
- Enable push alerts.
Detection zones help avoid constant alerts from streets, sidewalks, fans, pets, or trees outside a window.
Storage, sharing, and assistants
Models with a microSD slot can record locally without a subscription. Longer cloud clip history and continuous cloud features may require Kasa Care, depending on the camera.
To share the camera safely, use Manage Devices or Share Device in Kasa instead of giving someone your password. For Alexa or Google Home, enable the TP-Link Kasa skill or link the Kasa service with the same account; adding the camera to Kasa alone does not automatically add it to voice assistants.
If the status light never becomes stable after setup, test closer to the router before assuming the camera is defective.
