Connecting Sonos to Alexa can mean two different things. Some Sonos speakers have Alexa built in, while any compatible Sonos speaker can also be controlled from a separate Echo through the Sonos skill.
These steps apply to Sonos speakers such as Sonos One, Beam, Move, Arc, and other models managed through the Sonos and Alexa apps.

Turn on built-in Alexa on a supported Sonos speaker
Use this if your Sonos model has a microphone and supports Alexa.
- Open the Sonos app.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Services & Voice.
- Tap Amazon Alexa.
- Choose Add Alexa.
- Sign in with your Amazon account.
- Follow the prompts to finish voice setup.
- Say Alexa directly to the Sonos speaker to test it.
Only Sonos speakers with built-in microphones can become Alexa voice devices. If the option is missing, check the model details in the Sonos app.
Control Sonos from an Echo device
Use the Sonos skill when you want a nearby Echo to control Sonos playback.
- Open the Alexa app.
- Tap More > Skills & Games.
- Search for the official Sonos skill.
- Tap Enable to Use.
- Sign in with your Sonos account.
- Let Alexa discover your Sonos speakers.
- Say Alexa, play [song or playlist] on [Sonos speaker name].
This lets an Echo Dot or Echo speaker act as a voice controller for Sonos, including speakers that do not have microphones.
Set Sonos as the default music target
If you do not want to name the Sonos speaker every time, set it as the default playback device for that room or Echo.
- Open the Alexa app.
- Go to More > Settings > Music.
- Open Default Services and Devices if shown.
- Choose a default speaker for music playback.
- Select the Sonos speaker.
- Repeat per Echo or room if needed.
Sonos grouping inside the Sonos app is separate from Alexa multi-room groups. If you group speakers in Sonos, Alexa can often address that Sonos group by name.
Music services may need to be authorized in both the Sonos app and the Alexa app. If Sonos disappears from Alexa later, disable and re-enable the Sonos skill to refresh authorization. Also check whether your speaker supports Alexa or Sonos Voice Control only.
