Steam Workshop problems fall into two groups: mods that will not download, and mods that download but never load inside the game. Subscribing in Steam and enabling a mod in-game are often separate steps.
These steps apply to Steam on Windows, Mac, and Linux for games that support Steam Workshop.

Use this if Workshop items stay at 0 percent, fail partway through, or appear subscribed but do not show up inside the game.
Restart Steam and verify game files
This clears stuck client state and repairs the base game without removing subscriptions.
- Exit Steam fully, including from the system tray.
- Reopen Steam.
- Right-click the game in your Library.
- Choose Properties.
- Open Installed Files.
- Click Verify integrity of game files.
- After verification, return to the Workshop page and resubscribe if needed.
A damaged base game install can stop mods from loading even when the Workshop download itself completed.
Clear the Steam download cache
Use this when Workshop downloads stall or fail during transfer.
- Open Steam > Settings > Downloads.
- Click Clear Download Cache.
- Confirm and sign back in after Steam restarts.
- Check Download Region and switch to a nearby alternative if downloads keep stalling.
- Try the Workshop download again.
Large Workshop packs can take time and may retry automatically on unstable connections.
Fix mods that download but don’t show up in-game
Many games require enabling mods inside their own menus.
- Check free disk space on the Steam drive.
- Open the game and look for Mods, Add-ons, Workshop, or Load Order menus.
- Enable the subscribed mod inside the game if required.
- Unsubscribe from the mod, wait a moment, and subscribe again to force a fresh download.
- Read the mod’s Workshop page for compatibility notes after recent game updates.
Workshop files are usually stored under steamapps/workshop/content/[game App ID] inside the Steam library. That path helps when clearing a corrupted mod manually.
If you use many mods, conflicts and load order can be the real issue. Use the game’s in-game load order tool or recommended mod manager when the game supports one.
