Discord No Route means the app can load text chat but cannot establish the connection it needs for voice. The issue is usually a voice region, VPN, firewall, router setting, strict network, or broken voice setting.
These steps apply to the Discord desktop app and browser version on Windows and Mac.
Does this affect you?
Use this if you can see Discord messages but joining a voice channel gets stuck on No Route.
Set a Region Override
- If you manage the server, hover over the voice channel and click the gear icon.
- Open the Overview tab.
- Find Region Override, which is usually set to Automatic.
- Choose a specific region close to most members.
- Save the change and try joining voice again.
- If you cannot edit the channel, test a voice channel on another server.
Discord now handles voice regions per channel. One unreachable region can fail while the rest of Discord works.
Check network, VPN, and firewall
- Disconnect any VPN and test voice again.
- Restart the router by unplugging it for one full minute.
- Allow Discord through Windows Firewall or the Mac firewall.
- Check third-party security software for Discord blocks.
- On work, school, hotel, or public networks, ask whether UDP traffic is blocked.
Discord voice relies on UDP. Some strict networks block it while allowing normal web traffic and text chat.
Reset voice settings and update Discord
- Open User Settings.
- Go to Voice & Video.
- Scroll down and choose Reset Voice Settings.
- Quit Discord from the system tray or Dock.
- Reopen Discord so it can update on launch.
If the problem follows you across servers and regions, resetting local voice settings is worth doing.
Double NAT, IPv6, and Discord status
If your home network uses an ISP modem plus your own router, double NAT can interfere with voice. Bridge mode or connecting through the main router cleanly can help.
If IPv6 is enabled but your network handles it inconsistently, temporarily disabling IPv6 on the adapter can be a useful test.
Before changing too much, check Discord’s official status page for voice service disruptions. A Discord-side voice incident can look identical from your end.
