Free PC games can be excellent, but many lists mix real free-to-play games with demos, trials, and filler. This list focuses on games that are complete enough to enjoy without spending money.
These games are available for Windows PCs through Steam, the Epic Games Store, Riot’s launcher, or the developer’s own launcher.

Solid free-to-play games by genre
- Fortnite: battle royale, building, creative modes, Lego Fortnite, racing, and other non-shooter modes through the Epic Games Store.
- Apex Legends: fast squad-based battle royale with movement, hero abilities, and polished gunplay.
- Team Fortress 2: older class-based shooter with personality, low system requirements, and a long-running community on Steam.
- Counter-Strike 2: competitive tactical shooter that is difficult to master but free to install on Steam.
- Path of Exile: deep action RPG with loot, character builds, and Diablo-style dungeon crawling.
- Warframe: cooperative sci-fi third-person shooter with a large amount of free content and unlockable Warframes.
- Rocket League: soccer with rocket-powered cars, short matches, and a high competitive ceiling.
- League of Legends: long-running team strategy game from Riot with a steep learning curve and a huge active community.
Most of these games support optional cosmetics, battle passes, or convenience purchases, but they do not require money to be playable.
Check storage and internet first
Free does not mean small. Several popular free-to-play games can exceed 50 to 80 GB after updates. Make sure you have storage space and a stable connection before starting a large download.
Many are online-only, so they are not ideal if you need offline single-player games.
Avoid the bait-and-switch feeling
Free-to-play menus can be pushy about purchases. Treat skins, cosmetics, and passes as optional, and avoid spending until you know you actually like the game.
