If Netflix fails on Apple TV while other apps work, focus on the app installation, tvOS, storage, and Netflix-specific errors. The Apple TV hardware is usually fine.
These steps apply to Apple TV HD and Apple TV 4K running tvOS with Netflix installed from the App Store.

Use this if Netflix will not open, hangs on the loading spinner, or crashes back to the tvOS home screen.
Force-close Netflix
- Open the App Switcher by double-clicking the TV/Home button on the Siri Remote.
- Find the Netflix app card.
- Swipe up on the Netflix card to close it.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Open Netflix again from the Home Screen.
Pressing Home alone can leave Netflix running in the background. Force-closing makes it start fresh.
Delete and reinstall Netflix
- Highlight Netflix on the Apple TV Home Screen.
- Press and hold the clickpad or Touch surface until the icon jiggles.
- Press Play/Pause or choose the delete option.
- Confirm deletion.
- Open the App Store, search Netflix, and reinstall it.
- Sign in again.
Deleting the app does not erase your Netflix account, watch history, or recommendations because those live on Netflix’s servers.
Update tvOS and check storage
- Go to Settings > System > Software Updates > Update Software.
- Install any pending tvOS update.
- Check Settings > General > About for available storage.
- Delete unused apps if storage is very low.
- Restart Apple TV from Settings > System > Restart.
Apple TV app compatibility depends on tvOS. Low storage can also prevent streaming apps from caching data properly.
Other checks
If Netflix shows an error code, write it down and search it on help.netflix.com. For frequent network errors, check Settings > Network and test Ethernet if your Apple TV model includes it.
Apple TV does not use iPhone-style Screen Time, but it does have Restrictions under Settings > General > Restrictions. If Netflix is blocked or behaves differently for certain users, check those parental-control settings.
