A compromised Walmart account can place orders, use saved cards, and add shipping addresses before you notice. Lock down the login first, then handle orders and payment disputes.
Does this affect you?
Use this for Walmart.com or the Walmart app, with or without Walmart+, when you see orders, addresses, payment methods, or password changes you did not make.
Lock the account down
Do this before reviewing every order.
- If you can still sign in, open Account > Settings and change the password immediately. Use one you do not use anywhere else.
- Open Account > Payment Methods and remove cards you do not recognize. Consider removing your own cards temporarily until the account is secure.
- Open Account > Addresses and delete shipping addresses that are not yours.
- If the password no longer works, use Forgot password on the sign-in screen.
- Use the reset code sent to the account email or phone.
- If you no longer control either recovery method, contact Walmart support directly.
Dispute unauthorized orders and charges
Once access is secure, inspect the damage.
- Open Account > Purchase History.
- Check recent orders carefully, including quantities, prices, delivery addresses, and dates.
- For any order you did not place, use Report an Issue or Get Help next to that order.
- Contact your bank or credit card issuer separately to dispute the charge and ask whether the card should be replaced.
- If the same email and password were used on other sites, change those passwords too.
More control
Turn on two-step verification
Open Walmart.com > Account > Settings > Login & Security and enable Two-Step Verification. New-device sign-ins will require a one-time code as well as the password.
Use the right support route
At walmart.com/help, open chat and type Unauthorized Charges. That routes the issue toward account takeover support. Have order numbers and the account email ready.
Identity theft is different
If fraudulent Walmart orders used your name or address and you never had a Walmart account, treat it as identity theft. Walmart has a separate Report Identity Theft process through its corporate site.
