USPS Informed Delivery Account Locked? How to Get Back In

Informed Delivery uses your normal USPS.com account. If the password is rejected or the account is locked, fix USPS.com access first and then return to the Informed Delivery feature.

Does this affect you?

Use this for USPS.com accounts and the USPS Informed Delivery app when sign-in says the account is locked, disabled, already in use, or the password is not accepted.

Unlock the account or reset the password

A temporary lock can clear on its own, but password reset is faster when you are unsure of the credential.

  1. If several wrong attempts just triggered the lock, stop trying and wait. USPS.com accounts often unlock automatically after about 24 hours.
  2. To reset sooner, open the USPS.com sign-in page and choose Forgot Username or Password.
  3. Enter the email address attached to the USPS.com account.
  4. Check that inbox for the reset link or verification code.
  5. Answer secret security questions if USPS asks for them.
  6. Set a new password and sign in again. Informed Delivery should load with the same updated USPS.com credentials.

More control

If the reset email is unavailable

When you no longer control the inbox on file, self-service recovery usually cannot finish. Contact the USPS Help Desk and be ready with your mailing address and any original security-question answers.

Already in use may mean an old account exists

If USPS says the account or address is already in use, try password reset for any email address you may have used before. Someone at a shared address may also have enrolled previously.

Enrollment is separate

A working USPS.com login does not always mean Informed Delivery is active for your address. If login works but the feature is missing, complete Informed Delivery address verification separately.
