Cash App will not close an account that still has a balance, active investments, or pending payments. Clear those first so you do not lose access to money or records.
Does this affect you?
Use this for personal Cash App accounts on iPhone and Android. Cash App for Business may use a different closure process.
Cash out, then close the account
Do these steps in order.
- Open Cash App and check the balance.
- If money remains, choose Cash Out and transfer it to your linked bank.
- If you hold Bitcoin or stocks in Cash App, sell or transfer them until the investment balance is zero.
- Wait for pending payments, deposits, withdrawals, and Cash Card transactions to finish.
- Tap the profile icon.
- Open Support > Something Else > Account Settings.
- Choose Close my Cash App Account and follow the prompts.
- Confirm the closure and watch for the confirmation email.
More control
Pending activity blocks closure
A sent payment, received payment, transfer, or Cash Card transaction that is still processing can stop closure. Wait until Activity shows everything completed.
Handle Cash Card and records
The Cash Card stops working after account closure. Remove it from subscriptions first. Save transaction details or statements before closing if you need them for taxes, reimbursement, or personal records.
Consider unlinking instead
If you are unsure, you can stop using Cash App and remove linked banks and cards rather than permanently closing the account.
